Excellent improvement over the iSteady X!
Really impressed with this gimbal. It’s a vast improvement over the iSteady X that I had and far outshines the DJI OM4.Pros:Lightweight, half the weight of the OM4 and handles my Pixel 7 Pro with no issuesVery smooth operation and I prefer the fixed clamp over the magnetic one that DJI has.The detachable remote that acts as the controller is great. Doing selfies or group photos and videos are no longer an issue as you don’t have to worry about a timer.I really appreciate that you no longer have to turn knobs to lock the gimbal in place when fully open like you did on the X.The construction and material fell like high quality which I really appreciate.It also supports Android unlike DJI, which totally abandoned Android support.Cons: honestly it’s hard to find fault with this gimbal. If I discover anything I’ll update this reviewETA: first con I’ve found with it and it’s not the gimbal itself. I would not recommend using the video or camera function on the hohem joy app. I find the quality of videos and photos to be subpar through their camera app. The Pixel 7 Pro I have is far superior in that department.

Caution! It might seriously compromise your privacy.
I purchased this gadget expecting a reliable stabilizer, but unfortunately, it fell short in multiple areas. Firstly, it only works if you download the proprietary app, which immediately raised concerns. The app requires full access to your phone, including all files, the camera, and the microphone. Even worse, it sends data to the internet without user consent and provides no privacy disclosure. This lack of transparency is a major red flag.As for its primary function as a stabilizer, the performance is underwhelming. It stabilizes only if your movements are already steady and smooth, which defeats the purpose. Regular movements like walking, climbing stairs, or even mild shaking—let alone more dynamic actions like jumping—result in shaky footage. It’s far from the seamless stabilization promised in the product description.Overall, this product fails on both functionality and privacy, making it a disappointing and concerning purchase. I cannot recommend it.

Great gimbal. Does a steady great job. Takes minute to figure things out in settings but super helpful if you call the number you get a nice person on the phone who helps. Easy to use app and highly recommend especially for a beginner. This type for the price was the best.

Nice entry-level gimbal but key feature missing
I bought this gimbal to use with my iPhone on a family trip. It seems feature-rich and easy to get started with and well built. It will probably take many hours of use to fully understand all of the possible settings. One very important setting, however, is missing from the gimbal itself and the Hohem Joy app version 1.2.75 – the ability to set the gimbal to START in landscape mode and, therefore to recenter, adjust back to the centered position of landscape. Say you’re filming in landscape for a YouTube video and want to re-center the camera, it will instead flip the camera sideways and start filming in portrait-mode as if for an Instagram video. Really frustrating!I’ve watched several tutorials about this magical landscape orientation setting but it seems to have been removed from the latest Hohem Joy app. That seems like a sneaky move.
