    A steal for the price
This is a very good full keyboard, with inverted T arrow navigation keys, numeric keypad, home/end/pgup/pgdown/delete/insert grouping, and 12 function keys. It’s also backlit with a good variety of lighting modes. So far I’m really happy with it. Could it be better? Sure; it lacks a wrist rest, ergonomic layout like a Microsoft Natural, and doesn’t have dedicated media control keys (although this last point isn’t a big deal for me since this keyboard is for use with a computer that won’t be used for multimedia). However, keyboards are a very personal thing and a big deal these days, so here are some more details to help you understand this keyboard’s features.Weight: It’s not as heavy as the dedicated gaming mechanical keyboards that seem popular now with gamers and programmers. But it’s not flimsy either. Light enough to not be much hassle if you’re going to be traveling with it.Key feel: This keyboard is not one of the loud clicky ones. It does feel more tactile than a typical membrane keyboard, and the keys have a nice travel when you press them, but the click sound is very soft. These are regular-style keys, not chicklet keys.Lighting: I wasn’t too worried about have top RGB features, but sometimes if it’s darker in the room I do like some backlighting. This keyboard is a nice compromise between keyboards that have only white backlight, and keyboards that have a full software control app that let you customize everything. There is no software with this keyboard, it has several modes all configured using the function keys. Here are the lighting modes:- Lighting off/on- Neon mode: multiple colors light up three static zones on the keyboard. There are a few combinations you can select. The colors stay the same in the zones and don’t change.- Spectrum mode: 7 colors rotate and fill the entire keyboard continuously. So it’ll be lit red, then fade into purple, then blue, then green, etc.- Static mode: You cycle through and pick the color you want of the 7 supported colors, and it will stay lit continuously with just that one color. There are brightness and breathing effects that you can configure for each of the modes.I only use static mode, but gamers might like the other ones. I saw more expensive boards that only did spectrum or only had one color.Key visibility: The keys are not painted so they’re a little hard to read in poor lighting if you don’t use the backlight. However, I did like that the symbol keys had the correct placement for lower/upper case characters. I have seen many expensive keyboards from Razer, Corsair, Alienware, etc., that often invert the upper/lower case labeling for symbol keys and number keys. If you’re an experienced typist, you’ll work around that, but it bugs me when I see it. I found out later that this is an intentional design decision so that the more commonly used lower case symbol is more visible when backlit (the lighting doesn’t cover the entire key and ends up emphasizing whatever character is in the upper case position). But you won’t have to worry about that with the ReDragon.Key layout: After looking at the huge variety of keyboards on Amazon, you’ll notice that some smaller keyboards don’t have the numeric keypad or the six-key navigation group. Or that some have that ANSI style keyboard with the bigger Enter key but then put the slash key somewhere else. Or some that have compressed distance between keys or even smaller keys to make it more compact. This keyboard has an ISO keyboard layout with 104 full-sized keys. The key spacing is about a quarter-inch, which is similar to other full-size keyboards I’ve used. For the price, I think this is a great peripheral. Longevity would be my only concern, and I’ll update this review later if I run across any issues.

Great value if you need a budget 104 key backlit board.
We have 3 Red Dragon Keyboards in our house and they are all great. This model is not really a mechanical keyboard, but I wanted a budget keyboard with a numpad and backlighting and this one fit the bill. You can easily change the backlight mode directly from the keyboard, and keys are quiet with a decent “non mechanical” feel to them.

    Fantastic budget keyboard!
Wonderful magnetic mesh keyboard, with a few fancy lighting options if that’s your thing. Bought the wireless keyboard after my Black Widow gave out, and honestly? I don’t do professional tier gaming enough for the mechanical to make a difference. All I know is that the keys are responsive instead of mushy, the backlight works great for pulling all-nighters either gaming or doing IT work, and it’s lightweight enough that I can easily move it around or store it away if needed. Battery life has gone down pretty quickly, compared to similar products, but for 20 bucks? Can’t complain about that. It’s definitely given me my money’s worth.

    So easy
I should have bought this 20 years ago. Fumbling around in the dark hunting for the right key. Con: Keep forgetting which keys control the volume.

    How to Change Colors!
To change color: Fn key – hold down and tap the home key.To change brightness: hold down Fn key and tap up or down arrows – located next to the REDRAGON logo.I’m not a gamer. I needed a keyboard with backlighting and didn’t want or need the kind with large keys for visually impaired folks. This is like a budget mechanical keyboard. I was able to remove a key using a piece of dental floss! Use a paperclip to put the floss under each side of a key, and gently pull up. Pretty neat and worked great. There’s also a special tool or paper clip method. My high end Dell Bluetooth keyboards are now collecting dust. This is so much better and I really don’t need the Bluetooth. I got a Redragon keyboard and liked it so much got a second for another PC. It’s pretty awesome, especially for the price! I like the layout, and they feel of the keys.As expected, it works flawlessly with Ubuntu as well as Windows.

I bought this keyboard over 5 years ago, and it still works great! The RGB lighting is vibrant, and the keys are responsive. A fantastic investment for anyone looking for a durable gaming keyboard.

The Redragon Dyaus K509 is an excellent choice for gamers seeking the perfect balance between affordability and performance. Despite being a membrane keyboard, it offers a **semi-mechanical feel**, providing tactile feedback and a satisfying keystroke that closely mimics mechanical switches. This makes it ideal for both gaming and typing, delivering a responsive and comfortable experience. One of its standout features is the **vibrant RGB lighting**, with numerous color modes and dynamic effects that add flair to any setup. The low-profile, ergonomic keys ensure minimal fatigue during extended sessions, while the build quality is impressive for the price. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly keyboard with a **mechanical-like typing experience**, customizable RGB, and reliable performance, the K509 is one of the best options available.

There are 7 solid colors to choose from for the back lighting.(plus 3 red / green / blue offset patterns)It has a good layout, easy to read letters without any fancy “Gamer” style to the font.It looks clean and simple.I do occasional typing and occasional gaming. The USB cord has a decent long length. At first I couldn’t get it to stop “breathing” of the light level up and down and that was annoying. I looked for software for this keyboard on the manufacturers website, they have tons of keyboards similar to this model that have software, but there is no software for this model. How do I get it to stop breathing or flashing crazy like a Christmas tree?! Ahh! Then I figured out how to get it at just One color – always on without breathing or flashing. After power on of the computer, hit the right Fn key and the Page Up (LM3 – “light mode three I assume”), this first step will lock it to not breathing or flashing, then hit right Fn key and Home (LM2) until you get the desired color you want, tada! You can then use Fn key and arrow up or down to set how bright. It is sort of annoying having to do this every time I power on the computer, but I actually prefer to not have to run extra software on the computer just for the backlight of the keyboard, so for me its fine.

So my keyboard doesn’t seem to fit the features described on Amazon, or more importantly, on the Red Dragon website. My keyboard product sticker on the bottom clearly states model RDK509 DYAUS-K509-1.Im looking at photos and my keyboard certainly does not have any edge lit features. Its a good keyboard, very quiet, with Color LED features as described (other than edgelit)When the PC is switched off or rebooted,(USB powered off) it reverts back to colour changing mode and does not remember my preferred setting.
