Game Changer
Initial thoughts: WOW! I am genuinely thrilled about this recent purchase right from the beginning. It is such a remarkable upgrade from my previous 1080 monitor, which served me well, but I can already tell that the transition to an OLED display is a game-changer. The improved clarity and vibrant colors are absolutely stunning, and I cannot wait to fully experience everything this new monitor has to offer. It’s an exciting step forward in my viewing experience!

Very nice monitor for specific usage not for photo video editing
This is a very nice monitor. I find that it looks great. The picture quality looks phenomenal for just viewing and processing videos, movies documents, and things of that nature. I find that the graphics are excellent, but I might not recommend this monitor per se for photo or video editing it could be used as a good monitor for selecting images or a secondary monitor for processing documents and things of that nature but if you are a photographer or videographer I would highly recommend a more dedicated color synchronized monitor for color purposes. This one is excellent for just about anything else especially if you’re a gamer I would consider a monitor of this caliber now here is one thing that I didn’t like.I could not find a single USB-C monitor on the back unfortunately which meant that I had to use an HDMI to HDMI cable for my MacBook Pro. I would have preferred to use a USB-C monitor cable, but this monitor for some reason I have that yes it does have a display port two of them actually which is nice to have, but I don’t have a display port adapter for my MacBook Pro. I do have an HDMI cable, which did work out really well when I connected it I think other than that the controls are very easy to use. It is a premium monitor in terms of color and spec and refresh rate but no it does not compare to an Apple monitor with the retina displays which are absolutely gorgeous in comparison to this one once you have a retina screen it’s really difficult to go back to a regular LCD screen overall though a very nice secondary monitor or just a simple viewing monitor to have.

Looks great, and works great next to the larger G8 29″ Samsung, but hung in portrait mode
Looks great, and works great next to the larger G8 29″ Samsung, but hung in portrait modeMy daughter’s PC already has the 29″ G8 version of this same line of monitors. We set up this G6 next to the G8 in dual monitor config, but with the G6 in portrait mode, which it adapted to easily. During the physical configuration, I noticed the stand on the G6 is a different design and easier to work with.Once setup next to each other Windows set them up enabling them to show HDR, then we used Samsung’s app for color matching. Both the G8 and G6 came with defaults for color that look saturated to my daughter’s preference (though I like it). Getting them matched and color temp turned down was all a breeze.On our other multi-monitor configurations I just kind of deal with the fact that they aren’t color matched. Seeing hers side by side I get why it’s more important.During the unboxing we both commented that Samsung’s build quality was evidently superior to low-cost competitors but it can be hard to justify such a steep cost.And of course, this is sold as a gaming monitor and this is setup on her gaming rig, but was meant to be an extra when she plays on the larger monitor. For fun though, we played a few games in portrait mode just to make sure they were cool. Inquisition and Stardew Valley both have native portrait output, while any game can theoretically be rescaled by the Nvidia app by faking the resolution. I wanted to play Pinball FX in portrait, but it wasn’t installed on her machine while I was reviewing it. Yes, you can game in portrait mode!

You can do better, Samsung
Bought the new (there are no Rtings reviews yet for it) G61SD model, installed it today and used for some time. Overall the image quality is good and Samsung’s matte screen is much better than any glossy display if you have less-than-completely-dark room, however there’s a very major, very noticeable (to me) issue. The displayed image does not cover the whole surface of physical OLED display (I don’t count bezels of a case as a part of display) – even at a native resolution there are ALWAYS noticeable “gaps” on at least 2 sides of the image, due to “Pixel Shift” feature needing to use that display space to “shift” the image without cutting off any visible parts. What’s worse, there is no way to turn off “Pixel Shift”, at least on this particular model – yes, I know that this is supposed to prevent “burn-in” over time, but I am perfectly ok with increasing the chance of “burn-in” as long as I can fully utilize the whole surface of OLED display at all times. It should ALWAYS be my, the user’s, choice whether enable or disable such option.In an addition to this, the silver metal frame edge of display’s case is also very noticeable at all times and provides a very “non-immersive” experience, be it either playing games or watching movies/videos. Samsung should’ve anodized it with black color, or covered it with black plastic. Oh, and I should also probably mention the very, very flimsy “JOG button” on its back which controls the OSD and turns the monitor on/off – it hasn’t broken yet but after using it a couple of times it really feels like it won’t last for long time.All in all, it was a pretty disappointing experience with it and this will definitely be going back.
