All the kids ask to play music from video games.
This book is not easy as in beginner piano student. But for a student with two or three years of lessons, it is great. They love it. All the music from Mario in a easy to read key and reasonable notation for such rhythmically complex music.

I had ordered a copy of this sheet music book after encountering it at a family member’s house over the holidays, eager to learn. I didn’t realize the pace of the theme music was so fast! I will be spending more time to practice!

Fun, but HARD
We got this for my Mario obsessed 1st grader who is in his 2nd year of piano. Music comes very easy to him, so his piano teacher suggested this book (based on description only) as a Christmas gift and something he could possibly use for spring recital. This book is described as being the easier level, but it is actually quite difficult and complex! My husband, also a very good musician, had fun playing through the songs fir my son, but found them quite challenging! I’m not musical, but based on how difficult it was for my hubby, I cant imagine how hard the more challenging book is! My son does like the variety of music from different games/systems. He doesnt give up trying, even thought it’s way above his level right now.

Excellent, though perhaps not as easy as you might expect
I played piano for 8 years growing up, and one of the big reasons why I quit back then was because my teacher forced me to play only exercises and classical music. Now 20+ years later, I am trying to pick it up again on my own. Although I am spending the majority of my practice time on exercises to rebuild my technique, I know from past experience that ONLY working on exercises will bore me to tears. I love Super Mario Bros and wanted fun songs that I could work on right away, so this seemed like an ideal purchase.I don’t have experience with any other Alfred Easy Piano books, but it doesn’t surprise me when other reviewers state it is a bit more difficult then their expectation of “easy”. Granted I am extremely rusty, but I thought I would be able to sight read more of the songs right away. I can definitely see a parent buying this book for their young pianist and the songs possibly being above their ability. Depending on your child’s level, it may be necessary to simplify some of the arrangements even further and have them grow into the pieces as written. For adult students that will presumably have more patience, I think the difficulty level is appropriate if you know what to expect.

Easy songs but not beginner
I bought this for my son to eventually learn songs from. I wouldn’t say it’s a beginner piano book but probably intermediate. I’ve been playing piano for 30 years so it was pretty easy for me. I even played the songs while my kids were playing the video game. They enjoyed that.

Thorough collection but terrible binding
This is a very thorough collection of Super Mario themes, actually too thorough for my 6-year-old. Since it’s not really an “easy” version, it takes him a long time to read even one line. He will get tired of it long before he can try out more. He’ll have to wait 4 or 5 years asnd by then he may not be interested any more. In fairness, the Mario music often has complicated rhythms and harmony. It may not be possible to make an “easy” version and stay true to the original music.What I am most unhappy about is the binding. The first 5 or 6 pages started falling out as soon as I opened the book and it’s a new book! I ended up tearing all the pages out and punching holes to put them into a binder, all 75 pages! The paper quality is quite good. I don’t understand why they couldn’t have used a better binding!

Tyler Larson has a YouTube playlist of all of the songs in this book, which will give you a great sense of the difficulty of the pieces. There are some complex rhythms, triplets, and 16th note runs.
