The golden age of video rentals is back! Introducing a brand new fun family game for anyone that has ever seen a movie – and just like all great blockbusters, this one’s a double bill! This is a game for adults and teenagers alike, but for best results, you’ll want to split up into two mixed teams. In round one, each team will choose one of their members to go head-to-head in a quick-fire buzzer battle. From ‘Famous trilogies to ‘Movies with a zombie in it’, these two players must think quick, shout out a movie and slap the buzzer to put pressure on their opponent. The first player to run out of ideas loses the round (and gives their opponents a serious advantage in round two). We like to call round two ‘Movie charades with a twist’. The player that won the buzzer battle picks up six movie cards, gives the hardest three to their opponent and keeps the rest for themselves. When ready, they’ll get 30 seconds to get their team to shout out the movies by using three tricky techniques – acting out the film, making up a quote and describing them with just one word. Get them right quick enough and you’ll have a chance to steal from your opponents. Take it too slow and they might get a chance to steal from you. It’s an all-out race to collect a film from every genre and be crowned the new Blockbuster big-shots. With 200 classic movies, 60 category cards and a replica of a Blockbuster parking lot, you’ll want to clear a space on your top 10 family party games – this is one that’s sure to bring the entertainment home again and again. Timer is Stressful… but Overall, a Fun Game!
So, there’s the obvious nostalgic Blockbuster theme going on with this game. That’s cool, but is it fun? We set it up and played it a few days ago and have to say… yes! This game is a lot of fun, but I found it can also be stressful when doing to head-to-head and trying to name movies, games, or tv shows with a 15 second timer looming over me. I freeze up and my mind blanks in that situation. Still, it’s a good time overall and really like the addition of the TV shows and video games categories which helps balance it out and give an edge to certain players (like my son who knows way more about video games than anyone else).I looked up a video on how to play and noticed there was a blue buzzer being used. Apparently, they’ve removed the buzzer in this latest edition and replaced it with a time phone app you download. You can even see there’s a blank space in the box/container where the buzzer used to sit (no covered with white cardboard). At first, I was irritated by this as I would much prefer to have the physical game buzzer vs having to rely on my phone, but researching further, I see the buzzer was limited to one interval of 30 seconds while the app has different time intervals for the different game modes (15 seconds for Head-to-Head, 30 seconds for Charades, and 60 seconds for Blockbuster and Chill).

Just like a video rental box!
This comes in a large plastic case just like those we used to get at Blockbuster back in the day. The included sign piece and board make the game nostalgic for those of us that remember these big blue rental stores. It has an app for timer usage though apparently the original had a buzzer timer, this version does not have that. This game can be charades and trivia and more. I think this could be great for all ages, obviously with some concessions for younger players. Like most games, it will be worth the money if you put in the time and try it to play it! I think I’m going to add this to my rotation for post-trivia night.

Fast, Easy Fun
Finally was able to play this game!This is not a game for younger kids, mainly because they won’t get most of the movies, this is for us “old” folks (30+). The game is easy enough to learn, fun to play and the right size to take with you when traveling. The only thing I don’t like is the app that is used for the timer/buzzer. I know everything is more app related now but I would prefer the actual buzzer included instead of having to download an app.Overall its a fun, nostalgic game that is easy to play and fast fun.

Fun game
This is a fun game. Brings back nostalgia from the past, which is also a problem. Playing it with kids is not so great because they don’t know a lot about the greatness of 90s entertainment, but it’s still enjoyable.

When I saw this Blockbuster game, I was immediately drawn to it. As a kid, my grandfather would pick us up on weekends and take us to Blockbuster as one of our outings. The game was a lot of fun and it was nice to be familiar with everything since I grew up in the era. This game is perfect for the whole family.

I recently bought The Blockbuster Game: A Movie Party Game, and while we haven’t had the chance to play it yet, it looks like a lot of fun! The packaging is super nostalgic, designed like an old Blockbuster VHS case, which is a great touch. From what I can tell, the game seems perfect for movie lovers, and I love that it now includes video games and TV shows as well.
